About The Kids' Clubhouse Programs:
The death of a friend or close relative is a difficult time for anyone. The death of a parent or sibling, however,
can be especially devastating to a child. As if the sudden struggle with confusing and powerful feelings isn’t bad
enough, the child may also struggle alone, without sufficient support from parents and others who are overwhelmed by
their own grief. In addition, peers seldom know how to help...

Grieving children and adolescents in St. Louis have a wonderful opportunity to find the support they need. The Kids’ Clubhouse is a resource created
to meet the needs of these children and their families as they struggle with the tasks of grief.
“The group provides children with a safe and supportive
atmosphere in which they can explore and express their feelings among peers,” said Joan Bacon, founder of The Kids’ Clubhouse. “Through activities and
sharing, children learn that they are not alone in their grief and that they can obtain the understanding and support they need by talking about their
feelings, fears and experiences with others.” Group activities and projects help to move children through the grief process.
Because parents also need their own place to tell their story, express feelings and receive support, Kids’ Clubhouse support groups are also offered
to parents of the children participating in the children’s group. Parents, in addition to finding support for themselves, also learn about the process
of children’s grief and what they can do to support their children in their loss.
In addition to the evening support groups, which run out of our Clayton location, we also offer grief support groups in some elementary schools in the
city of St. Louis. These groups are run on-site at the school. These groups also have an activity-based, time-limited format and are very popular
with participants. Lunch is included. Groups are coordinated with elementary school counselors. If you are interested in offering this program in
your St. Louis city elementary school, please contact us for more information at (314) 721-1144.
All Kids’ Clubhouse groups are led by professional staff experienced in working with bereaved children and their families. Current staff includes licensed clinical social workers, licensed professional counselors, a pastoral care specialist, and many dedicated volunteers specially trained in working with grieving children.
